Kelsea Ballerini is mourning the loss of not one, but two, grandparents. Her grandfather passed away on Wednesday (Oct. 19), and her grandmother died on Friday morning (Oct. 21).

"Married 62 years and only lived without each other 39 hours," Ballerini wrote on Instagram when sharing the news of her grandma's death. "That's the kind of love we can all only pray to find and keep. Bittersweet few days losing them both, but smiling knowing they are together continuing their love story."

The singer also remembered her grandfather in an Instagram post on Thursday (Oct. 20), sharing a sweet picture of the two of them and saying, "[T]hank you for the kind words. It was an emotional day yesterday losing my grandpa, but an honor to stand on stage with his last name and do what I love knowing he had the best seat in the house. Me and my family appreciate the thoughts and prayers."

The sad news came to Ballerini on Wednesday afternoon, shortly before the CMT Artists of the Year taping. Ballerini performed her song "Peter Pan," while Shania Twain and Carrie Underwood sang along in the audience. Ballerini also accepted the CMT Breakout Artist Award, and took the opportunity to remember her grandfather.

"My granddad passed away this afternoon," she said at the end of her acceptance speech. "So this is for you."

She also used her speech to acknowledge her pride to be working with other women in country music.

"I’m so stoked to walk alongside Lauren Alaina and Cam and Maren Morris and Maddie & Tae and all the amazing women that we get to come up together. It’s been so much fun. So, thank you CMT for your support of us," she said.

If you missed the special and want to see Ballerini's performance, along with appearances by Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Chris Stapleton and more, the CMT Artists of the Year special re-airs this weekend on Saturday (Oct. 22) and Sunday (Oct. 23).
