New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith suffered two fractures in his jaw and will be out for six to 10 weeks after he was punched by teammate IK Enemkpali, head coach Todd Bowles announced Tuesday.

Bowles said Smith was “cold-cocked” and “sucker-punched” during a locker room altercation, and Enemkpali has been released from the team.

Enemkpali, who played linebacker for the Jets, was drafted by the team in the sixth-round of the 2014 draft. He recorded 3 tackles and 0 sacks his rookie season.

Smith will need surgery, which means Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the Jets’ starting QB to start the season.

The Patriots will host the Jets on Sunday, October 25.
