One day after news broke that Jana Kramer and her husband, Michael Caussin, are splitting, the singer appeared on Chelsea Handler's talk show and spoke candidly about the stage of life she’s in.

In short? She doesn’t take any bull. Kramer says now that she's in her 30s, she has begun to feel more comfortable in her own skin and standing up for herself.

“It wasn’t until I was 30 that I was like, ‘I don’t need any more bulls--t in my life,’” Kramer remembers. She goes on to explain how the years have shaped her for the better.

“I was in bad situations in my 20s and now in my 30s, I’m like, 'you know what, I’m stronger, I respect myself more to put myself in better situations than I did in my 20s,” she adds.

Though she wasn't specifically speaking about her relationships on Chelsea, Kramer has had her fair share of ups and downs. The musician and actress has been married three times and engaged another — that time to country singer Brantley Gilbert. Kramer is still wearing her wedding band in the interview, taped Wednesday (Aug. 24). News about the split from Caussin came out that evening.

Kramer’s album Thirty-One is a reflection of the lessons she’s learned now that she’s passed the milestone of 30. "In my mind, 31 shows strength, confidence and grace,” she said when the album was released. “That’s exactly who I feel like I am as a person and what I’ve been through in my life."

Kramer and Caussin had their first child in January — a daughter, Jolie Rae. The couple tied the knot in May 2015.
