As one of Maine’s largest industries, tourism supports a total of 85,500 jobs or on average, about 13% of employment in the state.
It's perfect timing for National Tourism Day with tourist season starting this month. With over 30 state parks, historic sites galore, and some of the friendliest people in the nation it is clear why Maine is a favorite summer destination for many.
As someone who has worked at one of the most visited historic sites in the state I have seen my fair share of out-of-staters. I am happy to share the state I have been lucky enough to call home for my whole life. I love this state and all it has to offer and I want others to appreciate it as well so I share as much as I can.
One of my favorite parts of tourist season are the questions about Maine life, for example I once was asked "How do moose know how to cross the roads where the moose crossing signs are?".
Although those from away (flat-landers) do make things like the commute from Bangor to Bar Harbor an extra 2 hours we should welcome them because they bring money to Maine's economy, and keep Maine's people employed, all while keeping us entertained.
Check out the video of a few flat-landers who thought they could park on the beach and leave their cars there during high tide.
