According to history the first recorded recipe for brownies were called 'Bangor Brownies'.

With many legends and stories and almost no record keeping it may never be known where the delicious brownie desert was created. But we like to think it was Bangor, Maine!

The most popular story says Mildred Brown Schrumpf who had the nickname 'Brownie' published the recipe after she accidentally created thin, crusted cake instead of the rising cake she was attempting to make.
