On my way into work this morning, I saw something unlike anything I'd ever seen. I'm still not sure exactly what it was, but I'm guessing it was related to reports of a huge fireball in the sky over the Northeast Monday night. Cool!

The American Meteor Society is reporting over 200 sightings of a bright fireball over a large portion of the Eastern U.S., stretching from Maine southward to Maryland. The AMS website reports the fireball was spotted at around 6:35 p.m. Eastern Time.

What I saw may or may not have been related to this, but I'm guessing (and that's all it is, at this point) that it probably was. I saw a bright white orb that appeared to be about 50 feet off the ground. It traveled in a straight line over my car, burned brightly, threw what looked like a few sparks, and then went out. As we all know, space is relative, so it may have been much higher than it appeared. But it sure looked close!

If you saw something similar, the American Meteor Society wants to hear from you! You can file your report on their website.I did!
