Today is Crayola Crayon Day! To celebrate, I think we should all stay home, build blanket forts in our living rooms, and color. Milk and cookies are also a must!

I read this morning that March 31st is Crayola Crayon day and it just took me back to childhood. Remember how excited you'd get when you got a brand new box of crayons? All the points were sharp and the wrappers intact. And there's no smell in the world quite like the sweet waxiness of a box of colors!

What was your favorite color? Mine was Periwinkle Blue. Or magenta. I liked bold colors and, I suppose, I still do! I think Crayola introduced us to descriptive colors, rather than just red or blue. It was Sky Blue or Cornflower yellow!

Crayola began when two cousins Edwin Binney and C.Harold Smith took over a pigment company in 1885 that Edwin's father owned. Since then, the company has created over 400 colors, including the basic 120 included in a box.

I'm beginning to think that I need to buy a box and a coloring book and keep them on the shelf. I mean, working in news, I deal with a lot of ugliness and darkness each day. and I'm no good at crafts like knitting or scrapbooking. But, taking the time to create a beautiful, colorful picture just might be the relaxation therapy I need!

I'm starting my week getting up early and doing news while Susan takes a long weekend. So, if anyone needs me in the afternoon this week, I'll be curled up with my puppy in my blanket fort, coloring and eating cookies.
