Being in radio means knowing how to multi-task. But I think, perhaps, management has taken it a step too far with the odd placement of a calendar.

I think when many people imagine what it must be like to work as a deejay, they envision cranking the music up loud, dancing around the studio, and singing along. A big party, right? Wrong. Well, okay....there's some of that (although I've never seen Scott Miller dance!)

The reality is that we're always doing several things at once. While the music is playing we're scouring the internet for interesting things to talk about. We're posting stories and silly cat videos.

Once we get off the air, each one of us has other duties. I work in news, so I'm gathering news stories for the next day, and posting the most pertinent on the website. Making phone calls for interviews, recording commercials...there's always something to do.

Management here, like in all companies, encourages multi-tasking, and likes it when we're using our time constructively. But I think the latest innovation may have taken it a step too far. I noticed this calendar when I was taking a break, strategically placed so we could see it when we were, perhaps, at our most relaxed. To me, it prompted my brain to go into planning mode. What day is it? What day is my interview with Lee Brice? Do I have a remote broadcast this weekend?

I wouldn't mind the extra nudge to my gray matter....except the calendar is placed in the bathroom! It's at eye level (when you're sitting down), so you can't miss it. Come on! For those few minutes where we can shut the door, and shut out the hustle and bustle...can't we also shut our minds down?

On the other hand, I suppose we'll never run out of paper!
