A Husson University student died while skiing on Sugarloaf Mountain today. Resort officials told the Associated Press that the 21-year-old from Hoosick, New York lost control and hit some trees.

Carrabassett Valley Police Chief Mark Lopez told the AP that the ski patrol and an ambulance crew performed CPR on Stephen Colvin this morning, but to no avail. A Lifeflight helicopter was activated but was canceled once Colvin was pronounced dead.

Lopez said Colvin wasn't wearing a helmet when he lost control on the black-diamond Hayburner trail and struck several trees in the woods. He was spending the day skiing with fellow members of the Husson University football team. The last time a skier died at Sugarloaf was in January 2012.
