I did a lot of things on my 10-day vacation last week but my favorite, by far, was a beautiful day on a bass boat at Pushaw Lake!

Usually, when Jim and I go fishing, it's in a canoe.  Because of that, we don't often get too far out into any lakes we visit. But on one of the last days of my vacation, Jim's fishing companion invited us to go along on his bass boat. And it's not just any boat. It's a Nitro! This vessel can cross a lake so fast that you're forced to either take off your hat, or lose it to the wind. And it's so smooth that, even in the choppiest of waters, you're standing on a calm deck.

The combination of boat and some pretty good fishing locations helped us to catch quite a few fish. We got large-mouth bass (including my FIRST ever!), a few small-mouth (smallies), and an incredible amount of pickerel. (much to our fishing companion's consternation)

When we started, it was a pretty calm day on the water but, after about 3 hours, the wind was whipping so hard that casting our lines became laughable. You could throw as hard you were able, but the line wouldn't go more than a few feet. That's when we decided to call it a day. But not before Jim hauled in a fat large-mouth that had to have been four pounds. Wow!

It was a wonderful and relaxing vacation, full of family and mellow days. But this fishing adventure stands out as one of the high points. I can't wait to go again!
