A Houlton woman was killed Tuesday night when the car she was traveling in left the interstate in Island Falls and rolled over.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 71-year-old Janet Drake was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. The SUV was being driven by her husband, George Drake, who police say was traveling too fast for the icy road conditions. He lost control of the vehicle, which spun off the road and into the ditch, where it overturned and struck several trees.

Also in the vehicle was 33-year-old Clyde Geary of Houlton. The two men were taken to Houlton Regional Hospital by the Island Falls and Patten Ambulance Services, both with non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle was totaled in the crash.

Police say two dogs were also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. One was recovered at the scene, but the other ran off and remains at large. The missing dog is a purebred Hungarian Vizsla. (the attached picture from State Police is not the actual dog, but is indicative of what the breed looks like) She has a chip in her collar, so it can be scanned to show the dog's owner. The dog, named Ruby, is light brown in color with a white patch on her chest, gold eyes, and a pink collar. Anyone seeing Ruby is asked to call State Police in Houlton at 532-5400.
