Silent Sidekicks has found a special way to allow folks to honor their furry friends, past and present. Purchase an ornament with your pet's name and it will be hung on a special Christmas tree this weekend. And it just might end up in the star at the top of the tree!

Silent Sidekicks uses personal pets as therapy pets. Mostly dogs, the animals are involved in everything from visiting seniors at nursing homes to acting as a silent, non-judgmental listener as self-conscious kids practice their reading aloud. Danielle McGuckin started the program years ago in memory of her beloved cat, Groucho. And now her beautiful Golden Retriever, Morgan is a therapy dog!

This Saturday, the town of Lincoln is allowing Silent Sidekicks to place their own tree alongside the city's tree at the Gazebo in town. So the group is holding a Christmas celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. and inviting people to stop by, purchase a special ornament, put their pet's name on it, and then it will be hung on the tree! And at 3:30, one lucky pet owner's name will be drawn and their pet's name will go in the star at the top of the tree!

Now, the really cool part of this is that you don't have to go to Lincoln to take part! You can purchase a $5 ornament from the Silent Sidekicks Facebook page, and the volunteers will hang it for you. Great idea to recognize the pets you have now and also to remember the pets who have passed over the Rainbow Bridge. (like our Floyd, pictured above)

But if you are in Lincoln, stop by the Silent Sidekicks celebration near the Gazebo. They'll have music, refreshments, and fun before the town's annual Holiday parade and tree lighting. Merry Christmas from Silent Sidekicks!
