A man who was involved in a standoff this afternoon at his Hollis home has been shot and killed by police. Details are sketchy and the man’s name has not been released.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says the standoff began around noon today when the man’s wife fled the home and he fired a shot. Troopers closed Route 35 in Hollis near the house and were joined by members of the State Police Tactical Team and negotiators.

At around 2:15, the man was shot and killed by a member of the tactical team outside the home. The Trooper was not injured. As is standard in all police-involved shootings, the Maine Attorney General’s office will investigate and has sent a team of investigators to the scene.

McCausland says Route 35 is likely to be closed during the evening commute and motorists should plan for alternate routes.
