A Winterport woman was seriously hurt when she was hit by a car that then took off into the night.

Waldo County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jason Trundy says the dispatch center received a 911 call at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday that a woman had been struck by a vehicle on North Main Street in Winterport. The caller said his wife, 56-year-old Georgina Wells, had gone to get the mail when he heard a disturbance. He went to check on her and found that she had been struck by a car that had then taken off. Mrs. Wells was taken to EMMC with serious injuries, including broken bones.

Officials say the vehicle was likely traveling southbound and say it's believed to be a dark blue, 2009 to 2011 Honda Civic. The picture, above, shows the color of the passenger side mirror, that was broken off in the accident.

Anyone who thinks they may have information about this incident, the person who was driving, or who thinks they've seen a vehicle with damage matching the description is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 1-800-660-3398.
