Bangor Area Homeless Shelter will hold its largest fundraiser of the year this Saturday as folks hike to the Waterfront in support of the area's homeless population.

It's hard for many of us to imagine what it must be like to be homeless. We take for granted our warm homes, comfortable beds, and well-stocked pantries. But the truth is, many people are just one or two paychecks away from finding themselves without all those creature comforts. Shelters like the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter do what they can to keep this population off the streets at night and safe from predators. But it's a huge undertaking that needs funding to keep operating.

So this Saturday, folks around the Greater Bangor area will be taking part in the annual Hike for the Homeless. There are 4 starting locations, with different start times, but they will all converge on the Bangor Waterfront at the end of the walk. Participants leaving from Bangor High School and the EMHS (Cianchette) building in Brewer will step off at 10:30, while those leaving from Hampden Academy and the Hermon Sports Arena will begin at 9:30. Walkers are encouraged to show up 30 minutes before their start time. Get more information at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter's website.
