It's that time of year again, though one could hardly believe it. and worse, it's a sure fire sign of fall. And frankly, I am not remotely ready to even acknowledge fall. Yes, it's been super hot and humid for weeks seemingly. So while maybe I'm reluctant to look fall square in the eye, it's going to happen whether I like it or not.

But, on the bright side, it's time again for the 2018 Common Ground Fair, September 21st - 23rd! This year the schedule of events looks exciting as always. The Common Ground Fair is a lot different than other fairs. If you're looking for a ton of midway, or sketchy, grizzled looking characters that want to cheat you out of your money, this may not be the place for you.

But if you're looking for a demonstration in blacksmithing, or stoneworking, this is definitely the spot to do it. This is where you will also have a chance to see how cider is pressed, goat milking, or maybe even a presentation on getting rid of your flush toilet and converting to "humanure" to treat your gardens. Check out the entire list of events here.

No matter what your specific reason for wanting to go is, it's not a bad one. The Common Ground Fair is an awesome place to spend an afternoon. It doesn't matter what you learn, or what you do...it's just a cool place to see some things you'd never see in your normal,  everyday life. I mean, do you have friends who milk goats? Alright...yes, some of you do. The rest of us though, need this.

So maybe I'll see you down there in Unity in September. It begins the 21st, and goes  through the 23rd. And again, there's a lot to see and do. So definitely consult the schedule, but really, you could just freestyle it, and go see where the action is on your own. Whatever you do, just get out and support Maine's small farms and businesses.
