The ice storm that started pummeling the state Saturday night lingers on and power company crews are working round the clock to restore power to the thousands of customers in the dark currently.

The hardest hit areas have been Hancock and Washington Counties but now freezing rain has increased the ice buildup in other counties as well.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is asking motorists in that county to get to their destination preferably by sundown tonight.

Deteriorating weather conditions that include a drop in temperature, winds 10 to 15 MPH and rain to continue until nearly midnight tonight coupled with the prediction of another ¼ of an inch of ice buildup on trees and power lines will create serious conditions tonight.
