Every week we feature a new hometown and share photos and facts using hashtags on social media. This week our #hashtag hometown is Stockton Springs!

Stockton Springs is a town of beautiful places! From Fort Point Light House to Sandy Point Game Management Preserve and beach, Stockton Springs has tons to see!

The town was once a busting area for business. With every type of shop and factory imaginable along the Penobscot River. Traces of the long wooden docks and factory foundations are still able to be seen along the river, but much of it was destroyed in fire during the early 1900's.

Stockton Springs was just Stockton for a while, named after a port in England. The 'Springs' was added later in anticipation of a spring fed bottled water operation that ended up being abandoned after sediment was found in the water.

Today the town is home to about 1,570 residents and even more in the summer. Here are some photos of Stockton Springs we found on Instagram:
