Every week we feature a new hometown and share photos and facts using hashtags on social media. This week our #hashtag hometown is Holden!

Not Houlton, HOLDEN! The town you pass through on your way to Bar Harbor. This town has a lot more to offer than just the main road to Acadia! Holden has no shortage of fun with two firework stores, hiking trails, a mini golf course and go-karts are just some of the fun things found in Holden.

The town was settled in the late 1700's by men who were involved in the Revolutionary War and quickly became a place for business. As the route from Bangor to the coast through Holden grew so did businesses like Inns, Taverns, Blacksmiths, and Convenience Stores.

Holden has also long been a destination for families as it is close to Bangor and Brewer but has a rural country feel. The local schools often rank well in academia and support strong music and athletics programs. The middle school, Holbrook, serves students from nearby Eddington and Clifton as well.
