Every week we feature a new hometown and share photos and facts using hashtags on social media. This week our #hashtag hometown is Greenbush!

With a population just under 1,500 people, Greenbush is one of those big, little towns. The town itself seems like a bunch of towns in one. The villiage of Cardville shares Greenbush with the village of Olamon. That's not all!

Greenbush also claims the 8 islands off shore on the Penobscot. The largest island is Olamon meaning 'Red Paint' as this was an area inhabited at one time by the ancient tribes of the Red Paint People. It is assumed they also spent time on the other islands called: Birch, Cow, Foster, Hemlock, Horse, Jackson, and Sugar.

Most industry, past and present, relied on the dense forest surrounding the town and the state. Greenbush is still home to many people involved in forest or lumber industries.
