Hancock County Cocaine Bust Includes New Yorker

A man and woman from Deer Isle and one from the Bronx, New York are facing charges for allegedly trafficking in crack cocaine.

Officials say that for the past several months, MDEA investigators, working closely with the Hancock County Deputies, have been investigating a group allegedly responsible for the importation of cocaine base, also known as 'crack,' and other drugs, into the Deer Isle and Stonington areas of Hancock County. This investigation included the undercover purchase of crack cocaine from members of the group.

Monday night, drug agents and sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant at the home of Michael Brown and Shannon Gray, located on Horseshoe Lane in Deer Isle. Barry Glover of the Bronx, New York was at the residence at the time of the search.

Seized were approximately 150 grams of crack cocaine, with an estimated street value of $25,000, as well as approximately $9,000 in suspected cash proceeds garnered from the sale of the drugs. Charged in this case, so far:

• Barry Glover, age 19 of the Bronx, New York, charged with Class 'A' Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (crack). His bail has been set at $200,000 cash.
• Shannon Gray, age 32 of Deer Isle, Maine, charged with Class 'A' Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (crack cocaine). Her bail is set at $5,000 cash.
• Michael Brown, age 39 of Deer Isle, charged with Class 'A' Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (crack cocaine). His bail was set at $5,000 cash.

The charges were elevated to aggravated due to the amount of drugs that were seized. This is the second time in a week that major sources for the supply of drugs in Hancock County have been apprehended. Sheriff Scott Kane and MDEA Director Roy McKinney stand committed to working cooperatively in an effort to stem the flow of illicit drugs to Downeast, Maine. Both acknowledge, in a press release, that there is more work to be done.

All three are currently being held at Hancock County Jail and are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in the Ellsworth Unified Court. MDEA officials will continue to work closely with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office on this case and they say more arrests are possible.
