A Hampden man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries after he was accidentally shot in Hermon on Monday, authorities said.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to 67 Swan Road after an accidental shooting was reported at about 5:20 p.m.

Joshua Ireland, 38, had been shot by Andrew Husson, 33, of Hampden, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

Police haven’t said what led up to the shooting, which is still under investigation.

The release did not provide an update on the victim’s current condition.

The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by Maine State Police and emergency crews from Hermon and Bangor.
