A Hampden man faces heroin trafficking charges after more than a thousand bags of the drug were seized yesterday in Holden, according to police.

James “PJ” Tardiff, 30, was arrested within 1,000 feet of the Holden School, an aggravating circumstance that enhances the charge to a Class A felony.

In a search following the Wednesday arrest, Sgt. Benjamin located more than 1,000 bags of heroin and an assortment of prescription medication in Tardiff’s possession. The street value of the heroin is over $15,000.

Tardiff was transported to the Penobscot County Jail where bail has been set on the drug trafficking charge at $15,000 cash. State Police also assisted in the investigation. More arrests are likely, police say.

He faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
