Hampden, Bangor and Bar Harbor have landed among the best Maine towns for young families, based on a new study of educational and income measures.

The study conducted by NerdWallet, an online financial advice site, takes into account the town's GreatSchools rating, median home value, monthly owner costs, median household income growth from 1999-2011.

Hampden places first on the list, with the study citing its 97.7 percent high school graduation rate, and the fact that more than two thirds of students go on to higher education.

Bangor placed seventh, with the study citing its National Blue Ribbons schools and the fact that it has more National Merit Semi-Finalists than any other community in the state.

Bar Harbor placed 10th, with its growing healthcare industry and its proximity to Acadia National Park factoring into the ranking.
