Habitat for Humanity of Bangor is taking applications for buyers of its first condominium build in Old Town.

The organization that's known for building single-family homes, to give qualifying residents a hand-up into home ownership, is branching out into multi-unit construction. A plot of land at 159 Perkins Avenue in Old Town became available, and planners decided it would be a great site for a 3-unit condo.

Now, Habitat is looking for applications from folks who would like to buy the condos. Qualifying families will need income between 30% and 80% of area median income. In addition, they need to currently be living in substandard conditions and be willing to invest 200 hours of sweat equity per adult in the building of their home. Folks can learn more about the eligibility by filling out a questionnaire on the Habitat for Humanity of Bangor website.

I encourage anyone who is interested, but thinks their income level may not make them eligible, to take the time to fill out the questionnaire. I've had some personal experience with this organization and it's a wonderful group of people looking to help folks get low-to-no interest mortgages that they can afford. Plus, the houses are beautiful!
