Next week in Bradley, renovation work will begin on a home that will eventually house a Bangor woman and her family.

Shannon Eberhart and her two daughters received a unanimous vote from the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor board of directors last week, and will help with the renovations on the three bedroom home located at 139 Cram Street.  Eberhart has one adult son who lives on his own.

According to a press release, families selected by Habitat can purchase their home with a $500 down payment after completing 200 hours of sweat equity per adult.  The Eberhart family will purchase the renovated home, taking advantage of a zero-interest loan.  Habitat homeowners do not pay more than 30% of their gross income for their monthly mortgage principal, property taxes, and homeowners insurance payment.

Lynn Hempen of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor says that Shannon “Has overcome some difficult circumstances to provide for her children, working in the same job for 14 years.  She lives within her means and has even managed to save some money, but not enough for a traditional down payment."

The home that was donated by Habitat by Wells Fargo last year is structurally sound but is in need of a total makeover.   University of Maine seniors in the Construction Technology Engineering program, students in Eastern Maine Community College’s Fine Woodworking program and Electrical program will participate in the renovation work that begins this Friday.

The organization says that fundraising continues for this project, and you can see what they're in need of and how you can donate or by going HERE.  Would you like to volunteer your services?  Then go HERE.

Shannon Eberhart said, "I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to have a yard and a home to call my own.”
