Flags across the state will be flying at half-staff through Wednesday for the victims of an attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue.

Governor Paul LePage says he and his wife, Ann, sent their prayers for the victims and their families, after 11 people were killed in a mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue. "We are deeply saddened by this tragedy, which occurred in a place of worship during a ceremony to celebrate new life," Governor LePage said in a media release.

President Donald Trump issued a proclamation directing flags to half-staff, as a mark of respect for the victims. Governor LePage included State of Maine flags to that order, that remains in effect until sunset Wednesday.

46-year-old Robert Bowers faces 29 hate crime charges for allegedly opening fire in the synagogue, killing 11 people.
