Governor Paul LePage and his wife, Ann, are sending prayers to the George Bush family after news that Barbara Bush is in failing health.

A family spokesperson released a statement over the weekend that the former First Lady has decided to forgo any further medical treatment, opting for Comfort Care instead. The 92-year-old was hospitalized earlier this year with bronchitis and has dealt with congestive heart failure, COPD, and has been on oxygen for the past year.

Barbara Bush is much beloved in the state of Maine, where she was often seen walking her dog along the beach in Kennebunkport and at local hospitals, where she would often read to the kids in the children's ward. Mrs.Bush was such a supporter of children's healthcare that Maine Medical Center in Portland named its children's hospital after her.

Not only was she a former First Lady, as wife to former President George H.W. Bush, but she is also the mother of former President George W. Bush. CNN reports he and her other children, daughter Doro, and sons Marvin, Neil and Jeb have been visiting her over the past week.

"Barbara Bush is one of a kind and she has been a wonderful friend and inspiration to so many people in Maine," Governor LePage said in a tweet over the weekend. He went on to say he and Ann were thinking of the Bush family and sending prayers.
