Governor Paul LePage, who has become notorious for the number of vetoes he issues each year, has adopted a new dog for the family and named him 'Veto!'

The family's new pooch is an adorable Jack Russell from the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. The two-year-old brown and white dog was formerly a stray in New Orleans who will now lead a life of luxury at the Blaine House. Sounds like a Disney movie!

Veto was adopted after the governor's family lost their family pet, Baxter. He was also a Jack Russell terrier who passed away at the age of 11 after his third bout of cancer. Baxter was also a shelter dog who was adopted from a facility in Florida.

Baxter often greeted guests to the Blaine house and even had his own Facebook page for a time. In addition, a children's book was written about the governor's home, from the dog's perspective.

The new pet's name seems appropriate since Governor LePage holds the state record for vetoes, exercising his pen on hundreds of them. Central Maine News says LePage spokesman Peter Steele commented in an email that Veto will play a bigger role in the administration than Baxter did, "perhaps even delivering vetoes to the second floor."
