Governor LePage Fires Leader of Maine National Guard

Governor Paul LePage today fired the head of the Maine National Guard, Brigadier General James Campbell. LePage's office will only say that the move was the result of an 'internal review.'

Campbell was due to deliver an annual 'State of the Guard' address speech to a joint meeting of the legislature today at 11 a.m. According to the Kennebec Journal, that speech was canceled and the Brigadier General was relieved of his duties.

"Based on an internal review of General Campbell," LePage said in a statement, "I have lost faith in his ability to lead Maine's soldiers and airmen who serve so proudly in the National Guard."
