Generally speaking, it's like pulling teeth to get me out in my own yard to get any work done. I'd rather have a nice rustic looking, long grass and leaf covered yard that all the neighbors hate. But my wife strongly disagrees. So rather than getting a lawyer, I do the right thing and get out the rake!

However, for some reason, if someone tasks me with helping them, or helping someone else, it doesn't seem nearly as much like work. So when I saw that Bangor was having a public downtown cleanup, it seemed like perhaps the perfect distraction from me having to begin any of my own yard work.

Presented by Downtown Bangor Beautiful and Downtown Bangor, there is a public cleanup that the whole family can participate in. They're looking to put a nice, clean shine on the sidewalks, parks, and streets. The goal is to pick up trash, leaves, brush, and anything else that is otherwise distracting from the beauty of our sweet little downtown area.

Folks should plan on meeting the morning of April 21st at 9:00a.m. in Norumbega Parkway. Bring whatever you need to feel comfortable. Gloves, hats, sunblock, rakes, shovels, etc. If you'd like more information, you can email them at downtownbeautifulbangor@gmail.com.

Look at it this way...you'll be teaching your kids an important lesson about keeping where they live looking nice, you'll help the environment, and you'll get out and about on a weekend doing something wonderfully physical. And, you can put off cleaning your own yard one more weekend.
