The 10-year-old Stockton Springs girl whose death is at the center of a child abuse case against her parents will be laid to rest this weekend in New York state.

Marissa's young life ended on February 25th, allegedly after being beaten by her parents. Julio and Sharon Carrillo, her step-father and mother, are now being held on murder charges for her death, and an investigation into the state's child protection services has been launched. Vigils have been held in her memory as several communities struggle to deal with the loss.

For many years, before moving to Maine, Marissa lived with her grandparents in New Windsor, New York, and so she will be laid to rest near her family. An obituary from Brooks Funeral Home says visitation hours are being held tonight in Newburgh, New York, with a Mass of Christian Burial planned for tomorrow. Both are open to the public.

Family members are asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to  Maine Children's Trust in Augusta, in memory of Marissa Kennedy.
