The new book, which contains fifteen chapters and many illustrations, takes a fresh look at the history of the National Historic Landmark and State Historic site. I got my hands on an early copy and readers are in for lots of interesting information about  the fort but also the great Penobscot river and surrounding areas.

Did you know the greatest American navel battle before Pearl Harbor was fought on the Penobscot river just a few miles from where Fort Knox was built? The book explains why it took over 25 years for the fort to be completed, the geology of the site, how the fort has been used in the past including the civil war, and what the fort is like today.

There was a book about the history of the fort published in the past but it went out of print and would not be republished so the Friends of Fort Knox took it upon themselves to publish their own book. The author, Liza Gardner Walsh, is no stranger to the Fort after authoring "Haunted Fort" the spooky side of Fort Knox.
The official book launch party for the new Fort Knox history book is Saturday, March 28, from 2 PM to 4PM, at MacLeod’s Restaurant, 63 Main Street, in Bucksport. The party will feature the author, individuals referenced in the book, a book signing, free snacks and cash bar.

You can learn more about the Historic site on their website.
