[UPDATE: 11 a.m., Monday] The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for the Bangor area and much of Penobscot, Piscataquis and Washington counties.

The weather advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. on Monday. The freezing rain advisory is no longer in effect. The updated forecast is calling for sleet and freezing rain, with total ice accumulations of one-half inch. The icing will likely cause power lines in some areas to snap and branches to break from trees.

Power companies are experiencing outages throughout central and Downeast Maine, with Bangor Hydro Electric Co., reporting more than 14,000 households without power, with about half of those outages in Hancock County.

Additionally, the city of Bangor has issued a downtown parking ban starting at 11 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service is warning that travel will be difficult because of the conditions. If you must travel, the Weather Service encourages you to make sure your vehicle is equipped with emergency provisions, such as a flashlight and extra water.
