Volunteers are needed to help get Fort Knox ready for the season! Opening day for Fort Knox is May 1st, but some spring maintenance needs to be done first. Bring your rake, shovel, leaf blower, or other helpful tools and join in the fun!

Friends of Fort Knox Executive Director Leon Seymour says the clean-up is part of a nationwide event called "Park Day." For the past fourteen years, the Civil War Preservation Trust has worked to maintain historic sites with a grant underwritten by the History Channel.

Volunteers will begin work at 10am on Saturday and will finish up at noon. Each volunteer receives a t-shirt and has a chance to learn more about this historic site. For more information, log onto the Friends of Fort Knox Facebook page!

Individuals who would like to help the Friends in their ongoing mission to preserve the Fort, learn about Fort history, Friends’ 2013 special events or hours of operation for the Penobscot Narrows Observatory are encouraged to visit their website. Fort Knox is owned by the people of Maine, managed by the Friends of Fort Knox and supervised by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.
