Bangor Public Works has issued a flood warning for the area around the Kenduskeag Stream.

Both the stream and the Penobscot River are full of ice, which could spell trouble later today when it starts to rain. Forecasters say we could get a significant amount of rain that could be heavy at times, which will complicate an already unstable situation in Downtown Bangor.

WABI-TV reports business and building owners have been urged to take precautions and to inform anyone parking in the area about the threat of flooding. At last report, the Coast Guard cutters were working their way toward Bangor, but it may be too little too late to prevent the Kenduskeag from overflowing its downtown banks.

Obviously the most likely time for flooding will be at high tide, which is scheduled for 3:30 this afternoon.
