The Fire Chief in Old Orchard Beach is charged with arson for a grass/woods fire that burned 42 acres.

The State Fire Marshal's Office, working with the Maine Forest Service, says 59-year-old Ricky Plummer was arrested at about two o'clock this morning, He's charged with one count of arson, in connection with a woods-grass and marsh fire three weeks ago in that town.

The blaze that burned 42 acres at the Jones Creek Marsh was fought by more than 100 Southern Maine firefighters. About a dozen investigators from the Fire Marshal's office and the Forest Service executed search warrants Friday afternoon and seized computers at the fire station, the Fire Chief's town-owned car, and his cellphone. Investigators also interviewed Plummer.

After the York County District Attorney's Office authorized the arson charge against Plummer, he was arrested at his mother-in-law's house in Scarborough. He's been taken to the Cumberland County Jail and will likely make his first court appearance the first of the week. Plummer's bail is set at $10,000.
