A house on Grimes Mill Road in Caribou was destroyed by fire Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to the home around 3 p.m., reports the Bangor Daily News.

When fire crews arrived, the family that lives in the home were already outside.

We're told wind and weather conditions made putting out the flames a challenge for fire fighters.

“The wind made it just like a blowtorch,” said Caribou Fire Chief Scott Susi.

Firefighters from Fort Fairfield, Limestone and Presque Isle assisted in knocking down the flames.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
