Father Facing Charges for Death of Infant Son

A father who left his infant son in a bathtub with the boy’s 2-year-old sister is now facing charges for the child’s death. A grand jury said the man is responsible for the death of his son.

Sean St. Amand, age 27 of Lewiston is indicted on a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of his 11-month old son, who was named for him. The grand jury said the man ‘did recklessly or with criminal negligence’ cause the boy’s death.

Police say St. Amand placed his son in a bathtub with the boy’s 2-year-old sister and then left the room for an indeterminate amount of time while the children’s mother slept in another room. When he returned, his son was unresponsive. The child was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine cause of death.
