Police say a fatal accident in Carrabassett Valley was caused by black ice.

34-year-old Levi Pooler died early Monday at a Portland hospital from injuries he sustained in Sunday's accident. Police say it was just after 6:30 Sunday evening when Pooler was driving a car that began to slide on black ice and struck another vehicle. The people in the second car were treated for broken bones.

Police say snow in the Bigelow Hill area had melted and then frozen over again, making the roads slick with black ice.
