An 18-year-old Brookton man is dead following a two-car crash in Topsfield this morning. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release today that alcohol, speed, and road conditions do not appear to be factors.

It was just after 7 a.m. when Washington County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of an accident on Route 1 in Topsfield, near Malcolm Hill.

When deputies arrived, they discovered that a 2003 Ford Taurus operated by Dylan Porter, 18 of Brookton had collided with a 2010 Western Star semi truck operated by Kevin Lagase, 39 of New Denmark, New Brunswick, Canada. Porter was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Lagase was not injured. Investigators say the Taurus is a total loss while the Western Star sustained damage to the trailer portion of the vehicle.

US Route 1 was closed for several hours during the crash investigation. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Division, Calais Fire and Rescue, Indian Township Fire and Rescue, and the Topsfield Fire Department. The crash remains under investigation.
