The Waldo County Families Helping Families Clothing Shed does a lot of good, from providing free clothes to back-to-school kids, to giving the basic necessities to folks who have lost everything in a fire. And they do it all out of a carport. So a family fun day is planned for Thursday to help them purchase a bigger place!

Ashley Sorrentino, who runs the Clothing Shed, says they act as a go-between for used clothing. Families who no longer need some of their clothing will drop it off at the facility. And then others who, for one reason or another, can't afford to go out and buy new stuff, will stop by to pick up some items for free. It's all about neighbors helping neighbors or, as the group is called, 'Families Helping Families.'

But the carport just isn't giving them the kind of room that they need. What's really needed is a bigger, more user-friendly facility where they can expand the amount of 'good' that they can do. So the group is holding a family fundraiser this week in Searsport to help them pay for a better location.

The 'Waldo County Families Helping Families Clothing Shed Needs a New Structure Family Fun Event' is being held on Thursday, August 27th at Mosman Park in Searsport from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. And they have a lot of fun planned!

Here are a few of the activities planned:

  • Dave and Fran will play live folk music from 4 to 5 p.m.
  • face painting
  • hula hooping
  • crafts for kids
  • a silent auction
  • Event photos for family and friends
  • refreshments and baked goods
  • A huge raffle,and more!

A small donation will be requested to get into the family fun day. For more information on the event, and how to donate if you can't stop by, log onto the organization's Facebook page.
