It’s fair season in Maine and, for me, that doesn’t mean riding the rides. It means there’s no way I’m losing weight anytime soon. I LOVE fair food! It’s all SO bad for you…and I just don’t care! It’s a celebration of summer that I just can’t resist.
Summer is the only time I put vinegar on my french fries. I love those greasy fair fries, drenched in salt and vinegar! I’ll sit in front of a demolition derby or motorcycle thrill show and just eat them, one right after the other. Then there’s the sausages. There is no other time of year when I’ll eat a spicy sausage, smothered in onions and green peppers…guaranteed to give me indigestion! But it’s SO yummy!
My boyfriend and I went to the Springfield Fair last summer to hear the band “Blackberry Smoke.” The music was amazing…and so was the food! The BEST pizza I’ve ever had! He says it was a traditional New York pizza (he’s from New Jersey). All I know is the spices were perfect!
And of course, the pinnacle of it all….the dough boy! (cue angelic music) There’s something about that slab of dough, dripping in melted butter and dotted with lots of cinnamon and powdered sugar, that I absolutely cannot resist. It’s…..heaven!
So, I’ll enjoy the fair circuit. I’ll eat the yummy treats. And in the fall, I’ll try to get healthy again. With fresh apples. And pumpkin. Pies. And Halloween candy. And Thanksgiving. And…and….ah well! Thank goodness for the fitness room at the Bangor Y!
