An organization in Bangor offers support, information, and comfort to anyone who’s lost a baby. Empty Arms is part of the Eastern Maine Medical Center foundation and this Saturday, they invite anyone who’s lost a baby to walk with them in Bangor to remember their loved ones.

Organizer and Empty Arms member Tara Smith explains the goals of the organization.

"We offer support to families in Maine whose lives have been touched by the death of a baby through either pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or in the first few months of life. We are committed to providing information and awareness to the community regarding the needs and the rights of families who have experienced loss."

Tara, who lost a baby during her third pregnancy says she knows firsthand that the support group can be a big help.

"We know all the feelings that you're going through," Tara told us. "We know what it's like to have the very first Christmas without the baby that you were supposed to bring home. And we know what it's like when you have a big family gathering and you're supposed to have a baby there with you and you don't. And it's so nice to have that community of Moms and Dads that have gone through that."

The Remembrance walk is a fundraising event, but folks don’t have to raise money to take part. It’s enough just to join in and honor the lives that have been lost.

The Empty Arms Remembrance Walk will begin at 10am this Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetary in Bangor. For more information about the walk or the Empty Arms support group, find Empty Arms on Facebook.
