The bodies of a man and woman were discovered this morning following a shooting and a house fire in Oakfield, and police have apprehended a Houlton man in connection with the crimes.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says the two people were found inside a home at 331 Oakfield-Smyrna Road by firefighters who responded to that scene before dawn. Two other fires were also reported in Island Falls at Katahdin Forest Products, and a pickup truck at a third location.

McCausland said just before noon that police had apprehended 32-year old Matthew Davis, who had been on the lam and considered armed and dangerous since early Monday morning. He was located by state troopers at around 10:45 in a stolen motor vehicle on the Beaver Dam Road in Island Falls and taken into custody without incident.

School district officials confirmed that an "emergency situation" in Oakfield forced the closure of the nearby Southern Aroostook Community School in Dyer Brook.
