Don't be surprised when you see emergency vehicles at the airport in Bangor today, but there's nothing to worry about. It's only a drill!

The Federal Aviation Administration requires BIA to conduct 'full-scale' disaster exercises every three years, in order to keep the staff and area emergency responders prepared in case of an actual emergency. Taking part in today's 'mass casualty' drill will be Bangor Fire and Rescue, Airport Operations, other Airport and City of Bangor divisions, along with representatives from local, state, and federal agencies. the American Red Cross, area first responders and fire departments, along with members of the media.

Folks in the area may see some visible smoke and even some controlled fire. The disaster drill should start at around 8:00 this morning and is expected to wrap up by noon. For more information, log onto the website for Bangor International Airport.
