A portion of High Street was closed overnight as crews battled a fire at the former Betty's Hilltop House restaurant.

WABI-TV reports the building now belongs to the owners of the China Hill restaurant and was in the process of being renovated. Crews found visible flames when they arrived on the scene at around 10:30 Tuesday night. Five towns contributed firefighters and equipment to battle the blaze that was made challenging by weather conditions and the building's construction.

There have been to reports of injuries. The State Fire Marshal's Office will now work to try and determine how the fire started.

A portion of High Street in Ellsworth, between McDonald's and Myrick Road remains closed this morning as crews continue to work.
