The Ellsworth Police Department is urging motorists to slow down after spending a few hours monitoring Route 1A on Wednesday.

It was a deadly holiday weekend on Maine's roads, so several Police Departments appear to have an increased presence on local roads. In Ellsworth, it was on Route 1A for about four hours Wednesday morning.

According to a Facebook post, the high speed was 84 miles per hour., with numerous speeders traveling at 80 or above. Nearly 30 tickets were issued for speeding, and all were at least 15 miles per hour over the posted 55 mph speed limit.

Police are strongly urging motorists to watch their speed and slow down! They plan to continue with enforcement actions on Route 1A to reduce motor vehicle complaints and accidents.
