Ellsworth Police Chief Submits Resignation

Ellsworth's chief of police abruptly resigned Thursday, according to the city manager.

City Manager David Cole on Friday said Harold “Pete” Bickmore's resignation was effective immediately, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Cole did not say why Bickmore resigned from his position.

In October, he was reprimanded by Cole for disclosing “confidential personnel information” to an Ellsworth resident.

Bickmore, a 26-year veteran of the FBI, became the city’s police chief in April.

The city has filled the position several times over the past three years. John DeLeo held the position for 16 years before retiring in April 2014. Chris Coleman, a 25-year veteran of the Maine State Police, served as chief for about a year and a half and then retired from law enforcement.

Ellsworth Police Capt. Glenn Moshier will serve as acting police chief.
