Police say an 81-year-old man died when his scooter was hit by a car in the town of Alfred.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says Russell Faxon was traveling on Route 202 in Alfred when his scooter was hit by a car driven by 65-year-old Laura Melisi of Acton. Police say he was riding behind a large box truck and wasn’t immediately visible to Melisi. The woman waited til the truck passed and then attempted her turn, not seeing Faxon until it was too late.

Melisi and a passenger were not injured in the accident. Police say Faxon was not wearing a helmet.
